Big Gino is a fictional character in the Hey Arnold! TV series.

Biography[]

Big Gino is P.S. 118's mob boss (although he's more of a parody) and loan shark. He loans candy to kids, but one should be careful when dealing with Big Gino unless they're absolutely sure they'll be able to pay him back, because he has eyes and ears everywhere, and he's not afraid to make things messy. One notable deal he made was with Sid, who was unable to pay Gino back, and Sid became a member of his crew to pay off the debt. Sid soon paid off the debt, but he continued to work for Gino, which concerned Arnold. Gino, perhaps to test Sid's loyalty, ordered Sid to give Arnold a "swirly", and take a picture. Sid ultimately was unable to do it, so Gino had his goons give Sid a swirly, and take a picture. This ended their friendship.

He later appears in "Gerald's Game" as loyal number 2 (Marshall) to P.S. 118's king (of the group that played the game "The King Rules"), Gerald. He seemed to really be loyal to Gerald, as he spoke highly of him even when he wasn't present. After Gerald quits the game, they stop being friends, like with Sid.

He’s Italian-American and he speaks with a New York accent.

In the episode "April Fool's Day", he’s seen dancing with Katrinka at the April Fool's Day dance.

Physical appearance[]

Gino is a small and thin boy with light skin, short brown hair that's styled into a pompadour, and has a round face with large eyes and a round nose. He has a dapper and cool/tough style, with a light grey suit, black shirt, white tie, white platform shoes, and he sometimes wears sunglasses with it.

During the April Fool's Day dance, he wore a suit just like his original, but light beige and with dark shoes.

During the King Rules meeting, he wore a Viking themed costume. He also wore his suit but swapped his grey jacket for a gray vest and instead of his white shoes, he wore brown boots instead, and also wore a pair of brown gloves.

Trivia[]

  • He’s a very skilled pool player, a.k.a a "pool shark".
  • He loves jazz music.
  • He is implied to be a fan of Dino Spumoni music, since the song My Last Bow can be heard in his hideout.
  • He’s usually seen with a chocolate lollipop in his mouth.
  • He has a sweet tooth.
  • It's unknown what grade he’s in.
  • His voice is noticeably deeper in "Gerald's Game".
  • He loves card games especially The King Rules.
  • He has a big collection of Yahoo Soda in his hideout.
  • He shares a first name with Gino's Souvlaki Shack
  • He looks like his voice actor, but with a rounder face
  • His voice actor is half Italian.
  • During the King Rules game, Gino dressed up as a Viking and carried around a blue horse head prop, which he stole from Sid.
  • He has his own motorcycle, which his henchmen drive for him.
  • It's unknown if his 2 henchmen are related to him or not. They are much older than him, meaning they were held back or go to a different school.
  • It's unknown where exactly Gino got the idea to become a loan shark/mafia boss, and how he has a lot of knowledge about the Mafia at a young age. He might have watched mob movies/TV shows (most of them which are not for kids).
  • It's unknown if his family is in the Mafia.
  • He seems to have some slight knowledge of the Italian language, as he calls a kid "Paisan" (the word "friend" in Italian) during the card game meeting in "Gerald's Game".
  • His full name is never revealed.
  • He’s possibly wealthy as he always wears a suit. He owns at least 2 of them (his usual grey suit and his light beige suit he once wore at the dance), further supporting this theory.
  • Like Lorenzo, Gino is a kid who’s mature and slightly antisocial for his age, is involved in business, and always wears a suit to public school. They also contrast with each other; Lorenzo is often nervous and had trouble with wanting to be like his peers, while Gino is a tough mafia boss who’s okay with being away from most kids. The 2 have never interacted with each other onscreen, but they did both attend the April Fool's Day dance.
  • Chocolate Boy is never seen interacting with Big Gino, but he has bought candy from him.
  • He also has similarities to Mickey the Weasel, as both are Italian American boys who speak with New York accents and are bullies. Both are avid players of The King Rules.
  • It is unknown how he broke into Sid's house.
  • He has also given out hall passes to 3rd graders.
