Lana Vail is a character in the Hey Arnold! TV Series.
Biography
Edit
Based on her accent, Lana appears to be from Southeastern Europe and is apparently works as a lawyer. It's unclear what type of legal practice she specialized in. She was also the only single lady living in the Sunset Arms during her stay (that is until Mitzi moves in for a few days in the episode "Grandpa's Sister").
In Season 2 she apparently moved out of the boarding house for reasons unknown.
Creative Problems and Continuity Errors
Edit
According to Craig Bartlett, Lana was meant to have a character role in the series. The writers and Craig initially wanted her to have a crush on Arnold. She would ask him to do favors and would make Arnold feel a little uncomfortable. However, Nickelodeon turned down the concept so the writers attempted to rewrite her character. In the end, they were not satisfied with any results so they ultimately scrapped her after Season 1.
Despite this, Lana was used in a few episodes. She appeared in the episode "Dinner for Four" where she's seen being startled by one of the cockroaches, and "Dino Checks Out" in which she attends a DinoMania concert. She is also used in all of the opening credits to the show.
The writers also made continuity errors when she appeared in the episode "Family Man," apparently still living in the boarding house despite indicating she'd moved out earlier. Though her appearances in the episodes "Helga on the Couch" and "The Journal" were justified as flashbacks.
