Trivia[]

  • This season consists of 20 half-hours, but only 17 were actually aired in the US during its 1999 run. Episodes 75, 77 and 80 were held over for unknown reasons and aired as part of Season 5 in 2000.
  • During this season, the series switched over from using cel animation (the first four quarter-hour episodes were the last to use it) to digital ink and paint. Due to this change, characters now have darker outlines, but duller looking colors.
    • Hey Arnold! wasn't the only American animated series in the late 1990s-early 2000s to make a permanent switch from hand-painted cels to digital coloring. Other series that made the change include Pepper Ann (1998), The Angry Beavers (1999), The Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries (1999), The Wild Thornberrys (1999), Johnny Bravo (1999), Daria (2000), Batman Beyond (2000), CatDog (2000), Rugrats (2000), SpongeBob SquarePants (2000), Men in Black: The Series (2000), Dexter's Laboratory (2001), Dragon Tales (2001), The Powerpuff Girls (2002), The New Woody Woodpecker Show (2002), The Simpsons (2002), King of the Hill (2003), and finally Ed, Edd n Eddy (2004).
    • Of the Nickelodeon shows, Hey Arnold! was the first to switch to digital ink and paint.
  • Phillip Van Dyke, who was the voice of Arnold, was replaced by Spencer Klein.
  • Starting with this season until April Fool's Day, the opening theme was remixed.
